University Marshals
WVU’s University Marshals are designated faculty members who serve as ceremonial leaders during academic ceremonies, including December Graduates Convocation and Commencement. University Marshals are selected by the Provost’s Office, and there is at least one marshal from each of the University’s 13 schools and colleges. Marshals are appointed for three year terms, and their appointment can be extended.
The group of University Marshals is lead and organized by Grand Marshal Mary Strife. It is also the responsibility of the marshals to bear the official university mace or batons, the symbols of institutional authority, during academic ceremonies.
