Honors Convocation

WVU Coliseum
Participation by invitation only, but audience seating is open to the public.
This convocation will kick-off Commencement Weekend by highlighting specific groups of West Virginia University’s outstanding students, faculty and staff. Invitations will be extended to these participants during the month of March.
A celebratory reception will immediately follow the ceremony. Honorees should complete this online RSVP form by May 2, 2008 to confirm their participation.
The following student groups will be honored during the Commencement Honors Convocation:
- WVU Honors College Graduates (University Honors Scholars)
- Foundation Outstanding Seniors/Order of Augusta
- National Award Winners (examples: Rhodes, Truman, Goldwater, etc.)
- Air Force and Military Science ROTC Graduates
- One Outstanding Graduate from each WVU school/college (selected by the Dean)
The following faculty, staff and alumni awards will be recognized/awarded during this event:
- Order of Vandalia
- Honorary Degree Recipients
- Ethel and Gerry Heebink Award for Distinguished State Service
- Mary Catherine Buswell Award
- Neil S. Bucklew Award for Social Justice
- Caperton Award for Excellence in the Teaching of Writing
- CASE Outstanding Professor
- Benedum Distinguished Scholars
- WVU Foundation Awards for Outstanding Teaching
ATTIRE
All honored participants are required to wear academic regalia. ROTC cadets are permitted to wear their dress uniforms. For those faculty and staff who may not have personal academic regalia, please contact the The Office of University Events. Any honored students who are currently underclassmen can also contact The Office of University Events. University Honors Scholars should wear their customized gold robes.
ARRIVAL
Participants should plan to arrive one hour prior to the start of the convocation. Check in and line up instructions will be detailed in further communications. The ceremony will last for approximately two hours.
GUESTS
Guest seating is available on a first come, first seated basis. The WVU Coliseum provides ample seating, thus, there is no limit to the number of guests an honoree can bring, although please include your guest count in your RSVP information. There are no tickets required for this event.
