Helpful Hints

Participation in the Commencement exercises does not guarantee the completion of one’s degree. Potential graduates should confirm their academic standing with their advisers and WVU’s Office of Admissions and Records prior to Commencement. All outstanding fees must also be paid (graduation fee, parking tickets, library fines, etc.) for degree completion.

Each ceremony will last approximately 2 hours. The Eberly College of Arts and Sciences commencement ceremony will last approximately 2 1/2 hours, as it is the largest college within the University.

We recommend that graduates arrive 1 hour prior to the start of their ceremonies. This will allow for sufficient time for check in and line up.

There are no printed tickets for commencement ceremonies at WVU. If your school has requested an RSVP, please provide that information as requested.

West Virginia University asks that all guests remain in their designated seating areas during the ceremony. Due to security and safety concerns, guests are not permitted to approach the stage to take personal photos, present gifts to, or congratulate their graduates. We appreciate your cooperation.

Post-ceremony receptions typically last between 1 and 2 hours. Usually you may bring as many guests as you like, but be sure to adhere to any RSVP requirements outlined by the school or college.

Regalia is NOT available for purchase at the Commencement venues. All gowns, caps, tassels, and hoods must be purchased before-hand. The official West Virginia University regalia is available at WVU Bookstore locations.

Gold and Blue Student Ambassadors will be on-site to assist you as you park and make your way to the various venues. If you have questions along the way, be sure to stop and ask—they’ll be happy to assist you.

Note than the PRT (Personal Rapid Transit) will not be in operation during Commencement Weekend due to system upgrades and scheduled maintenance.
